What UK businesses are paying for electricity.

Averages gathered from supplier panels and market data during July 2026. Treat them as a sanity check for your renewal quote, not as an offer — your postcode, meter type and consumption will move the numbers.

Business electricity prices UK

A proper comparison, not a tariff lucky dip.

Why your price will not match a comparison table

Business electricity is priced individually. Suppliers quote against your meter profile, your region’s distribution costs, your consumption pattern and your credit score. Two businesses on the same street can be quoted 3p/kWh apart. Published averages tell you the weather, not what to wear.

The market moves daily — timing is a price lever

Wholesale electricity is traded constantly, and supplier quotes are typically valid for 24 hours or less. A quote gathered in a calm week can beat one gathered in a volatile one by a wide margin. We watch the market so you can strike when the price is right, not when the renewal letter happens to arrive.

The standing charge is doing more work than you think

Standing charges on business meters have risen sharply as network and policy costs get recovered per-day rather than per-unit. A low unit rate with a bloated standing charge can cost a low-usage site more overall. We compare the full annual cost, every time.

Out-of-contract prices are the real emergency

If your fixed term has ended and nobody acted, you are likely paying out-of-contract or deemed rates — often 40p/kWh or worse. That is the most expensive electricity a business can buy, and ending it is usually the fastest saving we can deliver.

Best fit

Who this helps.

  • Businesses holding a renewal quote and wondering whether it is fair
  • Anyone on deemed or out-of-contract rates after a missed renewal
  • New tenants and owners who inherited whatever contract came with the building
  • Multi-site operators who suspect their sites are priced inconsistently
  • Anyone who wants a real quoted price rather than an advertising number
Common traps

What we check before you sign.

  • Trusting comparison-site "average prices" as if they were quotes
  • Judging a deal on unit rate alone while the standing charge quietly climbs
  • Signing a renewal on day one instead of testing the market first
  • Ignoring pass-through and non-commodity costs that arrive later on the bill
  • Missing the renewal window and defaulting onto out-of-contract rates
Transparent fees

No hidden commission. No mystery margin.

Our fee is agreed upfront and disclosed in writing before you sign. It may be paid directly or collected via the supplier as a transparent p/kWh uplift. The exact amount depends on consumption, contract length, and service scope.

As a guide, our fee is typically 1–2p per kWh on electricity and approximately 1p per kWh on gas.

FAQs

Common questions.

What is the average business electricity price in the UK in 2026?

As of July 2026, most SMEs are quoted between roughly 24p and 30p per kWh, with daily standing charges typically between 40p and 65p. Larger consumers pay less per unit; micro businesses pay more. Your actual price depends on meter type, region, consumption and credit profile.

Why is my quoted price higher than the averages I see online?

Published averages blend regions, meter types and business sizes. If your site is in a high-distribution-cost region, has a disadvantageous meter profile, or your business has a thin credit file, quotes will come in above average. A consultancy can often close that gap by approaching the right suppliers.

Do business electricity prices include VAT?

Quoted business rates normally exclude VAT. Most businesses pay 20% VAT on electricity, plus the Climate Change Levy. Low-usage sites and qualifying organisations may pay 5% VAT and be CCL-exempt — worth checking, because suppliers rarely volunteer it.

How do I get an accurate business electricity price?

Send us a recent bill. With your MPAN, consumption and contract end date we can price your supply across 21+ suppliers and show you the full annual cost of each option — usually within one working day.
