Energy broker commission calculator
Most business energy commission is hidden inside the unit rate. Enter your consumption, the broker's uplift and the contract length to see what it adds up to.
Estimate only: commission = annual kWh × uplift × years. It assumes consumption stays flat over the contract and excludes VAT. Works the same way for electricity and gas.

Broker commission questions.
How do energy brokers get paid?
Most brokers are paid by the supplier through an uplift added to your unit rate, expressed in pence per kWh. You pay it on every kilowatt-hour you use for the whole contract, but it is rarely shown as a separate line on your bill.
How much commission is normal?
Large-volume contracts often carry 0.1–0.5p/kWh. Most reputable, disclosed brokers work within 0.5–2p/kWh for SME contracts. At the expensive end we regularly see 3–5p/kWh, usually on smaller business accounts where the commission was never clearly disclosed.
Do brokers have to tell me what they earn?
Since 1 October 2024, Ofgem has required suppliers to show broker fees in the principal terms of every new non-domestic contract, and you can ask your broker for the figure at any time. Contracts signed before then may carry commission you were never shown.
Can I get undisclosed commission back?
Sometimes. In Expert Tooling v Engie, the Supreme Court ordered the recovery of over £130,000 of undisclosed broker commission. Whether you have a claim depends on what you were told when the contract was arranged; take legal advice on your specific case.
How does Telnergy charge?
